Given my daily computer access, I suspect that tpt will be rather quiet for a bit – first whilst I finish up my talk, then as I’m giving the damn thing, and lastly as I take a bit of a break in HelLA. Deal with the withdrawal now, people. But think, it could always be worse; I could still be sitting here listening to farking Tele Marketing calls….

This was weird. I was searching on robots.txt, as i wanted to make sure I was had the syntax correct, however dated the idea, and however true it may or not be in practice. Google’s third hit, however, was surprising: Whitehouse.gov. With an exlusion list a mile long, essentially relating to anything the government does. Seems like they’re looking to avoid any ‘track changes’ sort of historical accountability. No googling ‘911’ for example, or ‘vote/iraq’, nor the slightly disturbing ‘/teeball/iraq’, nor the ever revealing if undoubtedly brief ‘/omb/procurement/fair/iraq’…

Only a few more hours until I’m outta this bloody job. Oh, and I forgot to mention about my fantasy day yesterday that a friend from the States, whom I haven’t seen in far too long, and haven’t gotten properly pissed with for even longer, should be coming out just after I’m back from my travels. He’s making the move from North to South to ultimately get East, a small delay, but fark it. All in all it’s all kool.

never know

You never know what might happen. The last 24 hours have been almost fantasy like. First, I got home from work, and after speaking to people, found that the proverbial cheque is in the proverbial mail. So soon, soon, all the whinging here about money will end. I had a quiet dinner, and was upstairs in my room, working hard, for several hours; I managed to get several pages written, some of them absolutely key to the upcoming talk, and found myself going in some rather unexpected, but I think fascinating directions. So my hope for the talk and its possibilities seems rather better founded. But then the amazing part.

I went to the off-license about 10 to get a pack of fags, and then decided that I really needed a beer. So I walked the 20 yards to my cozy local, got a pint of guinness, and sat down with a copy of the Grauniad. I could’t have been there more than 5 minutes when a young lady sat down next to me, which was shocking, trust me, and then moreover, after the odd exchanged look and half-smile, we began speaking. Impossibly, it turned out she was a Renaissance graduate student at Trinity, Cambridge, who lives literally around the corner. After the pub closed, we went to the park in between our flats, and sat and talked for hours and hours and hours and hours. And – get this – she was telling me about a friend of hers who had just married for citizenship, and how she was thinking about doing the same. I managed, I’ll have you know my gentle and un-gentile audience, to keep my jaw firmly closed. But we did talk about it.

So there, a perfect night. You never know what might happen. But I do hope you know that I’m messing with you….anyway, cambridge renaissance chick sounds dull even to me. They tend to be too poofdah.

Oops. Almost forgot to renew the site! What a tragedy, some evil pornographer or other miscreant cyber-squatting on my precious Tpt, demanding huge sums of money in order for the domain name. A shady character in a white van with shiteloads of free cigarettes, somehow linked with endless 419 scams, with shite grammar, and all with email adresses originating from tpt. Amazing what a tenner can buy some days.

early to bed

Well, reasonably early to bed last night. I was quite tired, having failed to bring a coat to work, optimistically believing that the pleasant morning was, in fact, indicative of the day to come. So I got bloody soaked walking home through the pouring rain, and then had to scurry about the flat, closing windows and skylights that had been left open similarly optimistically. And bringing in my flatmate’s laundry, left outside to dry in the fresh Spring air….

Speaking of whom, she managed to lock herself out last night. Which first came to my attention with the sharp rap of something on my window at 3ish. I woke, briefly, thought ‘hmm. perhaps she locked herself out’, and went back to sleep. The second window thwack, I sat up, looked out into the street, saw nobody, and pretended to go back to sleep. The third, of course, enabled me to figure out what was going on, pull on some clothes, and let her in. Tossing and turning and trying to fall back asleep – I’m much better at waking quickly than quickly returning to sleep – she promptly drops a mug in the kitchen, unleashing a dreadful racket and a rather impressive sequence of oaths. So, really, I was forced to go downstairs, smoke a fag and slug some whiskey, and, well, this morning ain’t pretty. Sigh. And you all are still wrong on the guessing front. I’m not quite as single minded as some of you seem to think.
